Hamburg

Hamburg is one of the 3 cities in Germany which are also a state by themselves. I already visited Berlin for almost about a week. So I crossed that out of my list. In the very same trip, my next stop was Hamburg. I had already a place to stay overnight and a friend who will guide me throughout the city. We met in 2005 Summer, while we both were making our internship at the same company. She was born and grew up in Germany, so she is speaking the language very well and knows Hamburg by heart. She has been living in Hamburg, I guess for about 7, 8 years.

Yeah, where was I? Hmm, yes, after I had spent about a week in Berlin, I came to Hamburg. I met my friend in the train station. We went to her place, I got rid of my bags and stuff. We went out, grabbed something to eat. But later she had to work. But luckily, she was working in a company near the famous Hamburg Harbour, so I had a couple of hours to walk around and also to shop in that period of time.

The harbour was big, but not that huge as people have been telling eachother. I mean I wasn’t surprised or astonished at any level of the size of the harbour. I could get good shots of the harbour, of the building that I’ve seen there. There was also this “Elbtunnel”, which takes you across the harbour but underground. You can always walk along or drive your through. After all, it was not that different view from the other side of the harbour, but kind of fun.

A couple of hours later, we met again. We grabbed a bite at Mensa, the student dining hall. Then we rented a bike for each. Hamburg really reminds me of Amsterdam. People can ride bikes, in one you have nice rivers, in the other you have a really nice harbour and a lake. They both have so-called streets, famous with hookers/strippers. The only big difference is, in Amsterdam you can legally get high, in Hamburg no. (:

We rode our bikes along the lake, through the park. The lake and the park were really cool and clean. The park was really clean, would be perfect for picnic and such. Later on, we went to some special fountain in the park. At 10pm sharp there supposed to have a special light show accompanied with classical music. I was also familiar with that concept from Barcelona, I saw that kind of thing first time there, which was really stunning. I stayed for more than an hour, made videos and several pictures.

When it was coming to 11pm or so, we went to that neighbourhood of which I don’t remember the name now. It was kind of anarchist, always had the graffitis on the walls of the buildings, the streets were kind of dirty, even though we were in a such beautiful city. And since it was Thursday, pubs were also closing early, I mean really early, like 12pm.

And for the final thing for that night, we went to the famous “Reeperbahn”, the famous street I just mentioned above. We had the same problem because of the day. There were not many people/strippers, but for me it was definitely interesting, was something really new for me. After taking our photos we went back to the flat for some sleep.

The next day, we did not do much, because I had to leave for Bremen. We just did some shopping and ate something and that was it for Hamburg, at least for now…

“The park was really clean, would be perfect for picnic and such.” Tipik Türk mantığı:D

But, there is just one thing: “What do I really mean by ’such’?” :p
