Bern

After finishing my Germany tour, and after my finals, it was already time for visiting some other cities in some other/neighbour countries. However, this part of the trip I was going to travel alone. Not so exciting, isn’t it? Same here, but it wasn’t that bad. I always met friends in almost each city, so there was no problem by the means of company.

I was going to use the Interrail ticket this time. This was a perfect opportunity. I was going to travel 15-20 days and going from West Germany to Vienna, then to Amsterdam, to Paris. A bit complicated trip and in the high season it is not always possible to get cheap flights. The best way was taking the train of course. And the cheapest & fastest way was to get an Interrail ticket. It cost 239€ for 8 days of travel in 22 days. You could always take the fastest trains, but in some weird countries like France, you have to make an extra reservation and pay extra for that also. But for example, in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein I didn’t need any reservation. So it was cheap, fast, comfortable. What more can you expect?

After my finals finished, I left the next day for Bern, the capital of Switzerland. I was always curious about Switzerland. Although it really is a small country, they are famous for lots of things and they are rich! I visited Basel before and I figured out some of the things that time. Now I was planning to figure out the rest.

I took the ICE, the fastest train in Germany to get to Bern over Basel. I just wanted to stay a couple of hours in Bern. I couldn’t find any hosts in Bern, not even people to show me around and have a cup of coffee. So I had to walk around on my own. I tried to leave my bags in the lockers in the train station. But I had to have some Swiss Francs for that. I changed my money and put them into the lockers. I got a free town map from the tourist information, and made my way out.

I really didn’t know anything about the city and didn’t know where to go. I started walking around. I found a park, I walked through, made some nice pictures and then saw a river and a bridge above. I decided to go there. On the way to the bridge, on the main square of Bern, just in front of the Casino, there were some fountains right in the middle of the square. But these were no ordinary ones. It was coming right out of the ground for people who are dehydrated. People, well yeah, mostly kids really did have some fun there.

I went on walking till the bridge, I also made some nice photos there. I passed to the other side of the bridge. I saw the signs of a museum, museum of Einstein. I didn’t have anything else to do. I was even lucky to find something worth to see. They had student discount for the entrance fee. God, I love being a student. I just went in. It was much better than I thought. There were few people in, so I could read almost all of the information and took pictures. They had the original samples of some of the property from him and really broad information. I learnt lots of facts that I had no idea about. On the way out, I stopped by the souveniers shop and got me some fine presents. (:

Outside they had some simple experiments using the basic, simple rules of science. I watched the most and tried one myself.

I found out the way back to the statin again, got my bags back and was ready for the train to Zurich. I had found a host there, who lives just outside of Zurich. And that night I was going to stay with him. I couldn’t enter the casino, because I didn’t want to spend anything extra, maybe in the next 5 or 10 years.

See you in Zurich, hugs from the capital of this beautiful country,
