The Very First Item on eBay

eBayI was not really into online auctions, or AuctionWeb. Then I bought a used LCD from eBay which was working fine and the shipment was much faster than I thought. That made me give a chance to the system. But I was always wondering; now maybe you can trust people & buy stuff as you like and of course pay first & wait for the item but back then, in 1990s, how could people trust “the others“, I mean, how did it begin? What was the first item ever sold?

Well, I just recently learnt that the first item ever sold on eBay was a broken laser pointer which was sold for $14.00 by the eBay founder Pierre Omidyar in 1995. Actually Pierre Omidyar started this site as a “hobby”. And now? Look how far he has come… (:

That of course became the first trigger, he must have thought like: “If people pay $14 for a broken pointer, God knows what else they are willing to pay.”

Right now, almost everything can be found on this kind of sites. Lately, I was really astonished by an ended auction, a MiG 21F USSR Military Aircraft, was sold for US $26,600.00. A military aircraft, all I can say is “Wow”…

PS: 3 days ago, I took my second step in eBay, and bought a TV tuner card, 3 days passed nothing, no news from the seller. The thing is I’ve already paid. Maybe I shall reconsider my opinion once more…
