WiMAX
WiMAX, not the technology, but the certification seal. (: Yeah, as you all know, wireless technologies have been present for many years to provide Internet connections to long distances, but there were also some problems, the price of the equipment was too high and almost nobody was able to afford it, at the same time, everyday it is becoming more and more necessary to have all your information reachable everywhere, all these caused a trend to create more and faster technologies that are able to send high speed data to long distances with a small price, an example of these technologies is WiMAX. And what is it mainly used for? It is designed to give wireless broadband services in a wide area (like a city) with the goal to offer the user constant wireless broadband high speed internet access with the possibility of continuous mobility in wide areas.
This goes on like this…
My Mexican friend Zukhov and I had a presentation about this subject for our lecture “E-Business Technologies”. Of course that was just not the presentation, we also wrote an extensive report. And above you see the introduction part of this study. We mentioned IEEE the standard 802.16 & 802.16e, also HiperMAN from ETSI, we compared Wi-Fi with WiMAX, gave examples of WiMAX applications, like the pilot train route (London - Brighton) that uses a Pre-WiMAX system, talked about the “Regulatory Groups” like FCC, ECTA, ITU, the security and encryption methods of WiMAX, the “Standardization Groups”, the frequency bands, the WiMAX spectrum, the Interested Groups, WiMAX Forum, WiSOA, the state of the art, WiBro, a technology based on IEEE 802.16e and currently being applied in Korea. And with the conclusion part we came to the end.
The timing was actually not quite well for us, but also not that bad. We have also another presentation & report for another lecture but this time “auf Deutsch”, in German. That will be sure much harder for us, and will take more time. Anyway, we have lots to do, before the finals start. So, here are the outcomes of our fierce effort:
WiMAX Technology – The Report (doc) (Downloaded 190 times)
WiMAX Technology – The Acronyms (doc) (Downloaded 152 times)
WiMAX Technology – The Presentation (ppt) (Downloaded 142 times)
I have also formed a text file that includes more or less the things that I’ve said in the presentation. And that is:
WiMAX Technology – The Talk (doc) (Downloaded 156 times)
